This is a wholesome, dense, and filling bread that doesn’t take hours to make. It has no yeast and doesn’t require kneading. It’s essentially a quick bread, but it can be used in any way you would use a regular loaf of bread. Sandwiches, toast, snacking, etc.
Irish Brown Bread
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup natural wheat bran
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups sour milk (milk can be soured by adding 2 T of vinegar)
1/4 cup oil
Combine flours, bran, sugar, baking soda, and salt. Add milk and oil; stir to combine. Batter will be thick.
Spoon into a greased loaf pan.
Bake at 375 for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
