Easy Classic Italian Bread
Continuing on with our tour of culinary Italy, today we have a recipe for Easy Classic Italian Bread. You can catch our other posts in this series by clicking here for the best Panna Cotta and here for making the perfect vinaigrette.
Italian bread is one of the most versatile breads. It makes awesome french toast because of its more dense texture and even crumb. For the same reasons it’s great for dipping in oils or vinaigrette. Slather some butter on it and turn it into a delicious side. Cut the loaf length-wise and use it for the base of a “french bread” pizza. Toast it and put it on top of french onion soup or make it into croutons. The list is pretty much endless.
Italian bread is traditionally shaped into a batard or torpedo shape. Not knowing exactly how to create that shape well, I turned to this video that shows how easy it is to form a torpedo loaf. Honestly, this is the first time I’ve tried to make this shape correctly and it was really easy. I think it turned out pretty well.
